Your own front door
Because it's delightful! Just a wonderful, small city, with lots to see around the harbour, the park, the sea-front, and the heritage parts of town. And easy access to everything, especially restaurants and entertainment: A three-block walk gets you to downtown. And the city is within easy reach of the B.C. Mainland (Vancouver and the Trans-Canada Highway, Seattle (and the Olympic Peninsula, and I-5.).
The climate is mild all year, with spring flowers starting in February. (We've had a humming-bird regularly visiting our feeder in November and December!) The bird-watching is excellent, and your hosts would be glad to help.
So, why the Mansard House?
Because it is so close to things. Because the facilities are comfortable, decorative, and quiet. Because your hosts will help you to explore the city. Because the guest accommodation has its own front-door, so you needn't feel you're invading somebody else's house! Because we can usually provide off-street parking but you don't need a car: There are pedi-cabs and horse-drawn carriages in town, water-taxis to tour the harbour, and buses to Butchart Gardens, the airport and the BC Ferries. And a good public bus service, plus easy access to fishing charters and whale-watching tours.
And why "Mansard House"?
The name comes from the roof style - a popular Nineteen-century French style that is rare in Victoria. Built in 1891, the house was completely restored to heritage status by the present owners over the last several years. The Mansard House is "designated" as a Victoria heritage building.
